De Waterkant at a glance

The De Waterkant is a stylish little sub-district of Green Point lying adjacent to the Cape Town city centre and Bo-kaap areas.

Over the past 10 years, the area has seen significant investment and has been transformed into one of the trendiest areas around with chic cafes, restaurants and quaint little stores.

The area is very popular with Cape Towns gay community as well as young professionals and niche retailers.  Take a walk down the cobbled streets and admire the architecture, a mix of Georgian and Cape Dutch with a modern twist.

De Waterkant also has its very own lifestyle shopping centre called The Cape Quarter where you will find everything from daily grocery shopping to cosmopolitan stores and restaurants for all tastes.

This mini self-sustaining suburb also has a popular Yoga studio and a gym meaning you have all you need in close proximity with a dedicated security company patrolling the area to add peace of mind.

Shopping:

The Cape Quarter shopping centre is perfectly located in the centre of De Waterkant and offers some lovely small niche stores.  www.capequarter.co.za

Schools:

Due to its fantastic location between Green Point and City Centre, the De Waterkant has easy access to Reddam House and the foreign language schools in town.

Healthcare:

The Netcare Christiaan Barnard Hospital is in the centre of the City Bowl while the New Somerset Hospital and Cape Town Mediclinic present additional public and private healthcare treatments.

Dentists and specialists of all kinds are all in close proximity.

Nightlife:

The De Waterkant is very popular amongst the gay community and the area houses some of the top gay and lesbian clubs and bars.

Cubana is also very popular and you will find lines of people queueing on the weekends.

Activities:

Take a hike up Table Mountain or Lions Head.

Jog or cycle on the routes provided and enjoy the scenery.

Restaurants:

There are some great restaurants within the Cape Quarter Shopping Centre on the upper open level for al fresco dining.

Alternatively there are many small bistros and popular restaurants throughout the small cobblestoned streets.

Both the N1 and N2 national highways are easily accessible from the De Waterkant.

The popular MyCiti bus route also runs through the city and to the outlying suburbs.
